Meet our Head of Key Stage 3
Name: Francis Daniel Hughes
Education: Bachelors Degree in Education

Professional Background: I have been teaching for 11 years now, starting off my journey in a small town in South Africa. I have been at Phoenix Private School for the last 7 years now.

Educational Philosophy:
I believe that all children are unique and have something special that they can bring to their own education. I believe in assisting my students to express themselves and accept themselves for who they are, as well embrace the differences of others.
Every classroom has its own unique community; my role as teacher is to assist each child in developing their own potential and learning styles. I believe in presenting a curriculum that will incorporate each different learning style, as well as make the content relevant to the students' lives. Incorporating hands-on learning, cooperative learning, projects, themes, and individual work that engage and activate students learning.

What is Key Stage 3:
Throughout Key Stage 3, students experience a wide range of subjects of the British National Curriculum. We believe a coherent curriculum should make sense to learners that are relevant, engaging, and interesting. Our curriculum is designed to help pupils develop their ability to become successful learners, confident individuals, and responsible citizens by developing pupils’ skills.
A unique aspect of Key Stage 3 at The Phoenix Private School is the various projects and challenges set each year including Youth Enterprise, Science Fair Challenges, Debating Challenges, Careers Day, and many more. All of these challenges contribute to helping to nurture young people who throughout this journey become developed as more confident in risk-taking, are critical thinkers, and understand their part in the global community.
